Coal Grill and Bar (Meadowhall Shopping Centre) - George -

Rating:

Lovely breakfast, great service. I witnessed the waitress spill the beans and she was so apologetic. Ignore the haters, the waiting staff are lovely and the food is fresh. The girl was very apologetic and couldn't do enough. Sometimes people are out just for a freebie. It's not the end of the world. We loved our breakfast and wouldn't cry over spilt beans.

La Gondola (City Centre) - Jane Taylor -

Rating:

On Friday we went to the Italian restaurant for our Christmas party. We couldn't have asked for any more - the place was lovely, staff helpful, food delicious and good value. I would definitely recommend a visit there.

Phoenix Inn (Ridgeway) - Tony Lindsay -

Rating:

Went in Wednesday night. Very disappointed. Seemed to forget about people eating in the bar area and concentrated more on private parties. We are all paying customers.

Admiral Rodney (Loxley) - V L Nayal -

Rating:

My mum and dad had a meal there Saturday with their granddaughter and her boyfriend. They were disappointed, as the meal wasn't up to usual standards.

Ashoka (Sharrow) - Max Edgley -

Rating:

Had dinner here now on a few occasions with my wife. To put it simply, go. Unique experience but the food truly is very very good. We find it better on weekdays, as the atmosphere isn't as hectic as weekends.

Oh and for once in an Indian the wine list and beer selection is not only quaffable but downright good!

Go, try, and enjoy.

Balti King (Broomhill) - Jeps -

Rating:

I'v been ordering from Balti King for 19 years but recently they have gone downhill. Last time I ordered it took 3 hours and was cold. Tonight they didn't send the garlic bread I ordered, and when I rang to ask where it was the woman was rude and off-hand. When she said "what do you want me to do" I asked that they send me the garlic bread. Well that was an hour ago and still no garlic bread.

Never going there again!

Ashoka (Sharrow) - Nigel -

Rating:

Paid £26 for takeaway. Totally overrated and overpriced. Chips were crap, curry had peppers in it, which we've never had before. Won't be going back!

BB's (City Centre) - Susan -

Rating:

A party of us went there to eat and I was very disappointed.

I ordered the swordfish and was expecting a juicy, well-presented, fresh piece of fish. What I actually got was a paltry offering, which looked like it had been cooked from frozen. I was speechless. The side of veg was also uninspiring. The dish cost £16.25! Had to wait an hour for the food as well! I feel robbed!

On the upside, the atmosphere was good and pleasant service.

Sorry BB's but I will not be eating at your restaurant again.

Whitby's (Rotherham) - Terry Knight -

Rating:

My first visit after hearing good reviews. Four of us enjoyed the food, the service and the surroundings, and were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices.

La Dolce Vita (Crosspool) - Jennifer -

Rating:

We eat there regularly on a Tuesday evening. They have a special menu and it cannot be bettered. So much so we all prefer to eat there than anywhere else.

The food is cooked by Nana, and is not typical Italian but 3 courses of exciting, tasty, different, mouth-watering foods.

Please don't try it as we will not get our usual table.

Taste Of India (Hillsborough) - Jennifer Adams -

Rating:

We go here every 2 weeks. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Fantastic food and friendly service. Like going home for us, we even have our own table. Thank you, guys.

Akhtars (Killamarsh) - Leanne -

Rating:

Absolutely fuming. I order from here quite a lot and the staff are normally great! I normally have to pay a delivery charge with being 5 miles away, which I don't mind paying.

Today I rang and apparently got the owner of the place who was rude and refused to take my order due to me being 5 miles away. I know it's not closest to me, which is why I always pay delivery. Then he starts banging on about how he's the owner of this shop and others in Barnsley so it's his choice and he'll be telling them from now on not to deliver. Even if this is the case there's ways and means of saying things.

Mama's & Leonie's (City Centre) - Linda Combi -

Rating:

As an American with a Sicilian grandmother, I am kind of fussy about the quality of my spaghetti. Now I'm in Britain permanently, I hanker after those American-Italian family-run places.

Mamas and Leonie's was a wonderful find. Perfect New York style interior, straight out of The Sopranos, and the best spaghetti outside my grandmother's kitchen. Had a long chat with the owner, who told us the "history" of the place...

I want to book it upstairs for my 50 years in Britain celebration. It does get busy, as I've just found out... the upstairs fully booked for pre-theatre people on an evening when I had wanted to show it off to some friends. But we'll be back.

Noodle Inn Centro (City Centre) - Lisa Cocking -

Rating:

Great food at very reasonable prices.

I tend to order the same thing, a noodle dish with meat (belly pork) and sauce with a beer. But I always look at everyone else's food and it looks great.

I go in at lunchtime so cannot comment how busy it is in an evening, but there are plenty of people in with some tables to spare at lunch.

Service is friendly and restaurant is clean.

What more can I say apart from I would recommend?!

Le Bistrot Pierre (Hunters Bar) - R H Turner -

Rating:

We have had lunch at Le Bistrot Pierre, Sheffield, on numerous occasions and have yet to be disappointed in quality, quantity, variety, or value for money.

The only downside we have found is occasionally slow service, which apparently stems from a policy of manning up according to advance bookings, so that if more people walk in off the street on the day than have pre-booked, there are too few staff on duty. However, this occasional risk doesn't offset the otherwise consistently good performance.

P.S. one warning - if like me you like your vegetables well cooked, tell them when ordering, as otherwise you may find them too raw for your taste.

Whitby's (Rotherham) - Mr Turner -

Rating:

Just been to Whitby's restaurant, not impressed. Nearly cold chips and tasteless fish. Ordered a regular portion, hardly any chips on plate. Would hate to see a small portion.

Told the waitress about the situation and she did say she was sorry, but nothing else like "I will fetch the manager or supervisor".

Whitby's needs to visit the Wetherby Whaler or King Fisher restaurants in Wakefield and see how it's done.

Overpriced and its like getting brass when you've paid for gold. Never again.
