Cosmo (City Centre) - Hannah -

Rating:

The quality has gone down hill a lot. You feel like a battery chicken rammed in with the seating. You get people's bums in your face whilst you eat. Unless you go as a bigger group than two, then you get slightly more space.

Derby Cosmo's food is a lot nicer.

Both cleanliness has gone down hill, with sticky floors in bathrooms and not as well looked after.

I will keep going for lunchtime, as I think it is a good price if you love Chinese, but I wouldn't spend double for the evenings any more.

Rating:

Great breakfast. Good selection of food, smoothies and hot drinks. Ambience is pleasant, service friendly and attentive. Food hot and well presented. Would recommend and will visit again.

Sword Dancer (Handsworth) - Sue Fox -

Rating:

Just got back from Sword Dancer, my grandson's choice to go for lunch.

Food was very nice, but the smell of food was overpowering, as it was busy. I think some extractor fans would have helped. The smell clung to our clothes. That's the first time, after being a regular customer.

Also menus were all sticky with food.

Sorry but not being funny, just honest.

Meadow Farm (Ecclesfield) - Catherine Wood -

Rating:

After sitting for 15 minutes at a dirty table full of half-eaten food, I cleared the table myself and went to order my carvery. Stood for 5 minutes and had to ask at the bar for someone to come out and serve. Got back to my table and had to ask someone for cutlery. We were then left sat at the table with our dirty plates for 2 hours.

The children's play area is tired and tatty.

What a dismal place.

Meadow Farm (Ecclesfield) - Ann Robertson -

Rating:

Went with my friend and our grandchildren. The food was OK and the chef on the carvery was very friendly, but the restaurant was very dirty. There was food all over the floor, and tables were not cleared even though it wasn't busy.

The toilets were terrible. The floor was covered with toilet paper and rubbish even though there was a bin there.

Venus (Dinnington) - Jennifer Ellershaw -

Rating:

Went Saturday night 17th February. It was what I call a proper restaurant, run on traditional lines.

Professional, helpful, welcoming staff. Unhurried service.

Fabulous food: prawn cocktail, steak with all the trimmings and more, beautifully presented and decorated strawberry cheesecake.

Fabulous selection of gins. Recommend the elderberry gin with a splash of ginger ale and squeeze of lime juice.

Not expensive for the quality and what you get. Portions very generous.

Definitely going again. Grandson wants to go with us next time. That could be very expensive.

Cutlers Spice (Gleadless) - Nicholas -

Rating:

I was very disappointed with the service in this restaurant. I went with friends for a meal and found that the waiting staff rushed us into ordering food. It was apparent that we were being rushed out of the restaurant for quick turnover.

Like the service, the food was also rushed. I went to the toilet, which was dirty and stank of stale urine, and on my return my food had been taken away without my saying so! Fuming! When I asked the waiter, "what have you done with my food? I wanted to have what I'd not eaten put in a doggy bag", he said didn't you ask for a doggy bag. I replied "I was not given chance, I was in the lavatory and you just took it". He just shrugged his shoulders and walked away to the next table to take their order instead! Very annoyed.

I would suggest to anyone thinking of eating here for the first time, not to bother! Don't believe all of the hype, either. The food is below restaurant quality and rushed, just like the service. In my opinion, if the toilets are dirty then so is the kitchen. Disgraceful experience. I would not eat there again, even if it was free, because its dirty, grimy and over-hyped by fake reviews on Trip Advisor. Be warned, curry lovers.

Monk's Bridge Farm (Dinnington) - Carol Hutchinson -

Rating:

We had a carvery at Monk's Bridge, Dinnington, Sunday 18th February, the first time we have been. It is an excellent venue and very modern. The carvery was excellent, the veg was all fresh and steamed to perfection, the choice was unbelievable. There was a choice of meat, turkey, ham, and beef, all cooked well.

The sweets were also all home-made, we even brought ours home with us, as we couldn't manage to eat any more after the carvery.

The service was excellent and all the staff very attentive and friendly.

I would very much recommend this place.

Nonna's (Sharrow Vale) - Rachel Humphries -

Rating:

Always fabulous! Scrummy Italian food, wonderful service, great atmosphere and gorgeous smooth Italiano vino rosso. Yet again we had a lovely evening. Thank you Nonna's!

Butlers Balti House (City Centre) - Ranjit Singh -

Rating:

I'm embarrassed to call this an Indian restaurant. I help to manage one of my parents' Bangladeshi restaurants in the West Midlands and couldn't believe the low standards that Butlers let things run at. Butlers served cold, sub-standard food and staff weren't friendly. Complete disappointment!

McDonald's (Hillsborough) - Jennie Chapman -

Rating:

Got my son a Happy Meal from this drive through last night. Took it him home and when he opened it there was a weird looking hairy thing, like a big cat hair on his chips. I called what I thought was the right restaurant and spoke to a lovely manager who offered me a replacement meal. I explained my son was grossed out and he did not want another Happy Meal but could I bring it back down and get a refund. He said no problem and asked me to send him photos, which I did. I asked him if I could return the next night as I don't live in the area, but I would save the meal and bring it. He said no need, just bring your receipt and ask for me.

Tonight I have returned to McDonald's, Penistone Road, and unfortunately the guy I spoke to doesn't work there. I'd rung the number off the Internet but it had obviously been the wrong branch. Well to my shock the rudest, most obnoxious member of staff, called Simon, said I don't care what this other guy has said we don't refund, we replace the meal. I explained that my son doesn't really fancy another Happy Meal after he found a foreign body. I asked if he could ring the other branch, I had the guy's name, his email address, the photos, and of course my receipt. No I won't, he said. I said but my son's food had a foreign body in it and you won't refund, it was inedible! Don't care, and he just got cockier and cockier and appeared to enjoy trying to make me look a fool in front of other staff and members of the public.

I refused his offer of seeing his manager, as it was obvious it had been discussed, as it was cut-and-dried. I just said I will take it further, which I'm looking into now.

I don't no what I'm more shocked about, the fact that my son finds a foreign body in his food therefore it's inedible and they say I'm not entitled to my money back, or the guy's attitude towards me. There was just no need for his behaviour. As if finding something like that isn't disgusting enough, which you really wouldn't expect from McDonald's, but then to be met with disgusting behaviour on the back of it! I'm truly gobsmacked!

Viraaj (Woodseats) - Matthew Johnson -

Rating:

Very nice food but very odd experience.

Shortly after ordering they came back and said they'd run out of rice, so we ordered other things (some of which, to be fair, was on the house) then the food came. We had one lot of rice and then half way through eating they brought another one saying it was on the house.

An interesting experience, excellent food and friendly (and friendly albeit slightly embarrassed staff) just bit of an odd experience, which may be a very rare and one-off occurrence.

Chutney (Gleadless) - Paul -

Rating:

Ordered takeaway from here last Saturday. I was told it would be a 1-hour wait on delivery. My food eventually came after 2-and-a-half hours and endless calls to find out where my order was.

To top it off the driver totally short-changed me, turned his back counting it out gave me my change and hurried off by the time I realised he'd gone. Beware of the driver in the Ford Focus.

To be fair the food was good but I've been totally put off by the whole experience. Will not be ordering again.

Cosmo (City Centre) - Nic -

Rating:

Went last night and the staff behaviour was disgusting. I had to leave early from a friend's birthday due to my son becoming ill. I tried to pay the bill before leaving. The woman told me I could not pay my bill 'til I had gone back to the table and get the number. I said I can't do that, I need to just pay the bill and go, as I need to get my son to hospital (which she could clearly see he was distressed). She refused to take the money, so I asked the man next to her, who was a manger, and I got the same attitude from him.

I work in the same line of work and in that given situation I would have told the person to hold on a minute whilst I check it for them whilst the other person sorted out what needs taking of the bill. Anyway, as they didn't want to take my money or help in any way I said it didn't matter I'll put the money in my fiend's account and she will pay before she leaves, and proceeded to walk off to go take my child to hospital. The woman and man followed me through the restaurant making a sense in front of all the customers. Then I told them how many times and how many different members of staff I had transferred the money in the account and my friend will pay the bill when she leaves. Just to add, the bill was all together on one anyway. So I carried on, left the building. Before I left the manger told me he was going to call the police and not to come back again. Then after this they go over to my friend whose party it was and started harassing them for the money whilst they were still eating. He had to tell them how many times he got the money and will pay it with his bill at end.

I think the customer service at this place is vile and the staff need to be trained a lot better or replaced. To be honest I am that disgusted with the behaviour of the staff I think I am definitely going to take the matter further.

Mossbrook Inn (Eckington) - Carolynn Booth -

Rating:

We come in the Mossbrook Inn at least twice a week. We always have our Christmas dinner here. My partner says it is the best place ever. I have booked to go for his birthday Friday for a surprise. David, his wife, and all the staff are amazing. Such a lovely place to be.

Cosmo (City Centre) - Mrs R Bate -

Rating:

I cannot even rate this place, I am disgusted as how we have been treated. On the 19th January we booked Cosmo to celebrate my son's birthday. There was five adults and three children, two aged twelve and a four-year-old. My granddaughter is twelve and was asked to stand against a wall to be measured. We were told she measured over the line and would have to pay full price of £16.00. She was so upset at the embarrassment and humiliation having to stand up in front all those people.

I was so upset, this ruined her daddy's birthday. We paid the bill and I asked to see the manager, who was a complete waste of time. I also noticed on the reviews that other people have had the same experience. In my opinion you are being discriminatory to tall children and not small and overweight children. My granddaughter might be tall but she is skinny.

It states in your policy that under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. She is twelve years old and still a child. I am going to challenge your policy through appropriate channels.

This is totally unacceptable, you are giving children an inferiority complex of their size.

Mossbrook Inn (Eckington) - Carole -

Rating:

We called into the Mossbrook just for a quick drink Saturday afternoon. Alistair served us our drinks and as always he is very friendly. After all the years we have been going there we find him to be a brilliant guy and he is a great asset to your company.

Marco's (Woodseats) - Debbie Watson -

Rating:

Marcos is an intimate small Italian bistro with an excellent menu. We have been coming here for a number of years and we have never had a bad meal. All the food is cooked fresh by the owner, who is also the chef, just how you like it.

It's not always easy to get a table at the weekends, and this speaks volumes, so be prepared to book. The staff are friendly and welcoming, you can take your own wine although they are licensed.

We think it's good value for money, great food with a cosy atmosphere. But don't take my word for it, try it yourself.

P.S. the ice cream sundaes are excellent!
